How it Works
Sample-to-Result less than 30 minutes
A companion app provides guided workflow, automatic result capture, and data management:

Sample preparation
SmartLid™ nucleic acid extraction is a bead-based capture system yielding high quality RNA/DNA to deliver high sensitivity and accurate detection.
Incubation
Results
The Test Panel is incubated to amplify the purified RNA/DNA. A single operator can prepare and run 12 Test Panels with results per hour.
A simple color change indicates the results for each pathogen. Internal controls provide confidence the sample has been collected and tested correctly.

Global Health Panels
Rapid molecular detection for tropical and vector-borne infectious diseases
Malaria
Malaria remains one of the leading causes of preventable death globally, with accurate species identification critical to guiding effective treatment. ProtonDx offers two Dragonfly malaria configurations to match your deployment context.

The Malaria Pan/Pf panel delivers rapid binary screening, distinguishing Plasmodium falciparum from non-falciparum species, in under 40 minutes from a finger-prick blood sample. For settings requiring full species resolution, the Malaria Species panel simultaneously detects and differentiates P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae, P. ovale, and P. knowlesi alongside a pan-Plasmodium target, all within the same 40-minute run.

Collaborations for both panels in sub-Saharan Africa with regional health partners demonstrate Dragonfly's resilience and reliability in low-resource, high-burden settings. In 2024, the panel was field-evaluated across 672 community-level finger-prick samples in The Gambia and Burkina Faso, achieving 95.2% sensitivity and 96.8% specificity, outperforming both expert light microscopy and WHO-prequalified rapid diagnostic tests. Results were published in Nature Communications.
Research use only.
Global Fever Panel (Dengue and Zika)
Dengue and Zika are among the fastest-growing vector-borne disease threats worldwide, with dengue alone estimated to cause 390 million infections each year across tropical and subtropical regions. Accurate, rapid differentiation at the point of care is essential for clinical management and outbreak response, particularly in settings where laboratory infrastructure is limited.

ProtonDx has developed the Global Fever Panel on the Dragonfly platform to enable multi-pathogen detection of pan- Plasmodium , P. falciparum , ZIKV/CHIKV, DENV, Salmonella spp. , and Leptospira spp. from a single sample in under 40 minutes. We are currently working with early collaborators to validate and expand this panel across endemic regions. This work is being advanced in partnership with the Centre of Defence Pathology and jHub Med, UK Ministry of Defence, underscoring the operational and defence relevance of rapid arboviral diagnostics in field settings.
If you are a research institution, public health agency, or field programme working in an affected area, we welcome the opportunity to discuss collaboration.
Emerging Pathogens
The emergence of novel infectious disease threats, including hantavirus, Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever, and other zoonotic pathogens, demands diagnostic solutions that can be developed and deployed rapidly.
Dragonfly's open platform architecture allows new assays to be scoped, developed, and validated in weeks rather than months, without requiring changes to the reader hardware.

If you are a government agency, defence contractor, NGO, or research institution with an urgent or emerging diagnostic need, our team can work with you to develop a custom panel tailored to your target pathogen and deployment environment.
